ABIM & HPM Exam Results
The American Board of Internal Medicine released the results of last October's Hospice and Palliative Medicine Board exam today. At this point as far as I know we only have individual results, and not data such as overall pass rates, etc. It looks like Neurology has announced certifications as well (I plugged in the current AAHPM president Russell Portenoy to check).
I don't know about other boards (I randomly checked Pediatrics and Gyn and couldn't find anything), and someone commented already today on a prior post that the Family Medicine board has indicated it will post results tomorrow (February 6).
Congratulations to all who passed or who are about to pass - this is a huge milestone for our profession.
Sorry about the extra post - I'm not wanting to clutter people's inbox but I figure this is worth it.

FM results are posted as of 2pm central time 2/5/09. According to ABFM, the pass rate for all takers was 87%. I have no idea how that compares to other board exams, I'm just glad it's OVER!

PMR posted results midday. No report re: pass rate, but there were a whole 9 of us who sat the exam.

I am an EM physician, one of 12 EM physicians who sat for the boards. I also trained in Mason City under the mentorship of Dr. David Wensel; it was a one year fellowship and is accredited. I changed to HPM due to my desire to stop the nonsense of increasing pain in the elderly and end stage cancer patients through intubation, lack of goal clarification, and minimal time spent with patients. I plan to do an occasional EM shift, but now will soon be an HPM physician with Denver's Exmpla Lutheran Medical Center inpatient hospice. I love the work, and I needed a life style change...ie...getting up and looking forward to going to work. I passed the boards, so things are looking up for my family and I as we transition into this specialty.

Can anyone recommend some good resources for an individual (MD) contemplating taking the boards? Any question books? Online resources? Great texts?
